Periodontal Procedures That Can Improve Your Oral Health
Posted on 2/29/2020 by Gwinnett Dental Implant & Periodontal Center
If you have been diagnosed with periodontal disease, you may be overwhelmed as to what you should do first. You want to maintain your oral health, but you're not sure how to go about it. We have some suggestions for periodontal procedures that can improve your overall oral health.
Brush and Floss - A Lot
If you have been diagnosed with periodontal disease, you can improve your oral health a lot by brushing and flossing after every meal. If you brush and floss, you are clearing away the bacteria in your mouth, which helps to fight periodontal disease. You are also helping to prevent food particles from getting into the spaces between your teeth and gums. These food particles will only make your gum disease worse.
Other Procedures to Help
If you have periodontitis, which is the second and third stages of gum disease, you may need a deeper cleaning. Scaling and root planing deep clean those spaces between your teeth and gums and clean out any sources of potential infection. Deep periodontal cleaning also helps keep your gums healthy and keeps gum disease at bay. All of this is important to maintaining your oral health.
Unlike regular cleanings, which usually happen twice a year, we might recommend that you get your gums cleaned four times a year to help treat your gum disease. You can also help treat your gum disease by using toothpaste and mouthwash formulated for people with gum disease.
Rinsing with salt water also helps keep bacteria out of your mouth. If you have gum disease, and you want help keeping your mouth healthy, we would be happy to talk to you about ways you can make your gum disease better and keep your mouth healthy.
