Dangers of Gums Pulling Away from the Teeth

Dangers of Gums Pulling Away from the Teeth
  1. How Gum Recession Can Prove to Be Hazardous to Your Health
  2. How We Can Help

When you do not brush twice a day or neglect to floss, your gums will pull away from the teeth and create pockets. This development leads to bone and tissue loss and can increase the chance of getting a serious infection.

How Gum Recession Can Prove to Be Hazardous to Your Health

If you neglect to brush your teeth twice a day or floss daily, food is left between the teeth, plaque is not removed, and the resulting tartar and bacteria can incite the development of gingivitis or early gum disease. As the disease progresses, the gums pull away from the teeth and recede, exposing the roots and allowing infectious bacteria to accumulate and enter the bloodstream. When these harmful germs enter the blood, they can impact your health overall, leading to heart conditions, cancer, or the organs’ breakdown. Therefore, we urge that periodontal patients seek help right away if they have problems with bleeding gums, gingival swelling, and soreness. If the disease has progressed, we will need to regenerate the bone and tissue to prevent further degeneration of the tissue and bone.

How We Can Help

Suppose your gums have pulled away from the teeth or you have recession. In that case, we will perform a comprehensive periodontal evaluation (CPE) first so we can diagnose the extent of the gum disease and plan a course of therapy. By performing pocket reduction surgery and regenerative procedures, we can encourage the regeneration of the bone and tissue and prevent future serious health problems or an infection. Also, by cleaning out the pockets and adding regenerative substances to support the redevelopment of bone and tissue, we can provide patients with a means to overcome any future occurrences with periodontal infections and disease.

Do you have problems with gum recession? If so, call us to arrange a comprehensive periodontal evaluation (CPE). Doing so can mean the difference between better overall health or serious future health difficulties.
