What are the Different Types of Gum Surgery?
  1. Gingival Flap Surgery
  2. Gingivoplasty
  3. Gingivectomy
  4. Gum Graft

Gum surgery can be used to fix your smile or as a way to treat gum disease. There are different types of gum surgery, with each one of them focusing on a specific aspect of your gums. The type of gum surgery you need mainly depends on how severe your gum disease is and the kind of damage it has caused. The different types of gum surgery are.

Gingival Flap Surgery

This is one of the common types of gum surgery. With gingival flap surgery, the gums are separated from your teeth to create room for deep cleaning. Then, they are carefully stitched back into place to restore your smile. In some cases, bone reshaping is needed for successful gingival flap surgery. This procedure is only ideal for those with sufficient gum tissues. Patients with damaged or minimal gum tissues are not ideal candidates for this procedure.

Gingivoplasty

Gingivoplasty involves the reshaping of gum tissues to create an improved smile. This procedure is mainly used for aesthetic reasons rather than as a treatment option. Although it is used as a gum disease treatment option, it is combined with a gum graft. This combination helps put your gum tissues in perfect shape.

Gingivectomy

This is a gum surgery procedure where overgrown gum tissues are removed to help improve your smile. The procedure is also meant to remove excessive gum tissues from the surface of your teeth, making it easier to clean them. It also makes your smile brighter by exposing more of your teeth’ surface. Too many gum tissues make your teeth appear small than usual.

Gum Graft

This is an oral surgical procedure that involves removing gum tissues from the roof of your mouth and stitching them on either side of a tooth exposed due to gum recession. Get in touch with us for more information on the different types of gum surgery.
